Let's Get Reckless, Big Black Cadillac
Black Fin Records BF001CD

I just picked this one up from my doormat, the forthcoming new album release from UK Rockabilly Band Big Black Cadillac. The band are a pretty wild 4 piece, although features saxophone on the studio mix on two tracks. Formed around 2006 the band consists of; Neil Thomas, formerly with neo rockabilly band Shock Therapy & The Ugly Dog Skiffle Combo. Dale Beauchamp; Dale has featured in many bands over the past 28 years or so, including several of his own bands. Dom Redsell, who has also been involved with several bands over the years. Wayne Beauchamp, former front man for successful Norfolk based band Dawghouse, The Ugly Dog SkiffSe Combo, V8 Rumble & played drums for Shock Therapy (Neo). -->> READ MORE

Big Black Cadiliac are a very hardworking band who gig between 60 & 70 times per annum. The band play all forms of rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll covers from the 1950's through to modern day. This album is made up of two covers "As You Like It" (The Deltas) and "Running Free" (Iron Maiden). There are reworks of four Shock Therapy tracks and a further six new original self penned tracks.

So there's a lot of years of experience between the gang members and that resulted in a pretty darn good CD. A bit rough around the edges, but as my constant readers already know, I like my rockabilly rough and rockin'. It seems the hairs in my neck always rise up when I hear a screamin' guitar like on "Forest" or "Weekend & Reckless". Even on the somewhat slower paced songs like "Through the Night" and "Edge of a Knife", you can almost feel that edge...

The Dick Dale influenced instrumental "Lone Rider" is one of my favorites on this album, I love that fast rollin' surf style guitar sound. I tried to turn up the volume even more, but there was nothing left. I wonder if the neighbours like it too LOL.

About the covers; the Iron Maiden cover "Running Free" is a bit of an odd choice, but still a great rocking song with fabulous slapping bass and saxophone accompaniment. The Deltas song "As You Like It" sounds pretty much okay, but it's not an improvement on the original, which I think is more "pure". Good song though, especially, I guess, for those who don't know or don't remember the original from the Deltas' fabulous 1982 album "Heart Attack".

Hey, what can I say? I can listen to this all day. Great musicians, great songs, great recordings, great rockin'.
