Latest news: Johnny's CD "Extra Chrome" has now been released on Nervous Records, with an additional 2 bonus tracks, "Hurricane", a high-powered rendition of the ever popular Steve Bloomfield song, plus "All Nite Long" (credited "Unknown").

Hi, my name is Johnny Black, I was cruisin' the internet when I stumbled across your website. Which by the way I thought was pretty okay. This got me a-thinkin' and I said to myself, I bet those guys would dig a copy of my latest CD "Extra Chrome". As you can see from the pictures I've been playing rockabilly music for a number of years, in many outfits in many wild and wierd venues, but this doesn't mean I 'm not open to new ideas, and would love to play in Europe (UK, etc). Anyway I'm mostly playing piano at the moment, Jerry Lee style, which is actually how I came into this kinda music, so I guess I've come full circle.

I've also included a copy of the Blackcats CD which is mostly covers, this is my 'working duo' and features the unique vocal stylings and guitar work of my partner in sonic crime Matt "The Cat" Ellers. The "Extra Chrome" CD is 12 originals, all tracks written, recorded and performed by me, ain't I a clever fella !!! Hope this finds you with a beer in your hand and a nubile young thing on your arm !!!

Warning: This CD is the result of many years of alcohol research, user caution advised...

I just got this "Extra Chrome" CD in the mail today, and I'm already listening to it for the fourth time. At first I thought "This is great", then I thought "Heck, this guy is using electronic keyboards in rockabilly music". Yeah, I know, that's a big NO-NO. Still I couldn't stop listening to these 12 self-penned, self-produced tracks. This album really rocks, and the sound is superb, the bass lines are so clear and catchy, I was boppin' around the office, swivel desk-chair and all.

Johnny wrote all song hismelf, but you will notice that some are heavily influenced by original tracks. Like when listening to "Fight Back", Marty Robbins' "Big Iron" comes to mind immediatly. Keyboards or not, this is an awesome rockabilly platter. And like Sonny Burgess got away with using trumpets in rockabilly (and you just gotta dig that!), maybe Australia's Johnny Black is gonna be the first to be accepted on the rockabilly scene using keyboards. Check him out!
