|Great Rockabilly Compilations from Raucous Records
Now here's a couple of very nice Raucous compilations that give a nice overview of the British rockabilly and rock 'n' roll scene in the 80s and 90s. Some well known bands and songs, some fairly unknown obscure underground stuff. There's something for eveybody on these platters, varying from pounding Teddy Boy Rock 'n' Roll with a steady beat, to fast paced rockabilly, uptempo western swing and obscure British hillbilly (if there is such a thing as British hillbilly :)) Many of the bands presented here also have other cd issues on Raucaus Records, so these are also nice samplers for various other Raucous releases.
Riverside Rockabillies (RAUCD 054)
Riverside Rockabillies was originally issued on 10" vinyl, which contained only 10 tracks of 20 that were carefully picked from the vaults of Chris Hummings. This (re)release contains all 20 tracks. Some of the tracks that were omitted the first time have since then been issued on EP's or as alternate versions, but most are released here for the first time.
The James Deans of the Dole Queue (RAUCD 055)
A broad selection of bands playing their own brand of music, based on rockabilly roots, and all their own songs. No covers on this issue! The average age of the groups on this album is twenty-one, some bands have been together a matter of months, others a couple of years; all of them possess a rising reputation on the live club circuit. Twenty tracks, over fifty-five minutes of playing time - and variety is the keynote.
