|Spotlight On, The Honky Tonk Pounders
Part Records, PART-LP 341.001
Since 1996 this trio has been playing rockabilly, rock 'n' roll and blues continuously. No matter if they're entertaining friends at a party, a familiar crowd at a small club, large dance halls or even hundreds of fans at festivals - The Honky Tonk Pounders always know how to thrill their audience. Guitar, stand-up bass and pounding drums come together in a groove that will swipe everyone off their feet. The band have already journeyed accross the big pond, gigging in Philadelphia and Nashville in 1999, and as a support act for The Paladins in San Diego in 2000.
The Honky Tonk Pounders not only revive the fifties in a way that Elvis and other heroes would have enjoyed, they also relive the fifties lifestyle. The musicians' appearance will send you straight back in time - they're sharp dressers in vintage outfits. Their powerful music will keep you rocking all night long! Having published songs on various samplers, you can now enjoy listening to 10 original songs on their 10" LP "Spotlight On", released on Part Records (Germany).
Straight from the opening number "Hot Rod" you will know what to expect from this brand new vinyl platter, like the band's name indicates; this is true authentic pounding honky tonk rockabilly. Unlike in the fifties, this album is recorded in wide stereo, which makes it sound just fabulous on modern hi-fi equipment, but it's still traditional fifties rockabilly. Besides the outstanding recording, you will also find that these guys are all very good musicians, definitly influenced by the likes of Johnny Burnette, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins and many other orginators. Gunnar's voice (with hardly any accent) and snearing lead guitar, Marco's steady bass rhythm and Gabriel pouding the drums, and the fact that the album is pressed on vinyl, make this release a must-have for fans of vintage rockabilly music.
